My former device was a Dell Venue 8 Pro (32gb eMMC primmary storage & 64gb mSD card additional) and is now a MS Surface Go (128gb NVME SSD + 128gb mSD). I currently use calibre on a Windows tablet. Most of calibre's work is managing a library is done in RAM. "Too slow" is a very personal judgement and calibre is not overly impacted by the speed of the storage device. SD cards might be good for backups but they might be too slow for the Calibre library (like network drive level slow). Even a virtual trackpad only helps so much as desktop apps like calibre display with very small UI on small tablets. Trying to manage a custom column and virtual library in calibre to do the same is excessively tedious in a touch-only environment. Keeping only the currently active books in Freda has worked out as a very good way for me to keep up with what I'm reading. I'll intersperse the occasional longer novella or novel. Instead, I'll read one story from one collection and then another from another collection from a different genre. I rarely read a whole collection cover to cover. I generally prefer short stories and many that I have are in collections and omnibi (or whatever plural you prefer). I've adapted to keeping only a few books in my reader (still currently Freda) and won't likely move it to D:/ as I generally only have 4-6 books in Freda. Have you tried installing Freda on your D: drive? In theory it should work instructions are here: ĭo let me know how you get on with it - and contact me on if there is any problem. I keep my cablire library on a 64gb microSD card that is drive D. Apps like Freda and Book Baazar Reader have to keep their copy of the books in the primary storage drive (C, which is always a limited resource on small Win tablets (mine's 32gb). I only keep 2-3 books in Freda, only those currently being read, and delete Freda's copy as soon as they are finished.

I "Save to disk" from calibre and then load into Freda. I've bounced back and forth between Freda and Book Baazar Reader with Freda being my current favorite. I don't use calibre's ebook-viewer for reading these days, though I did for a while.
#HOW TO INSTALL WATCHTOWER LIBRARY ON WINDOWS TABLET PLUS#
Before getting the mouse and keyboard, I used TeamViewer to remote control my tablet from my desktop machine so that I had mouse and keyboard, plus a larger display. I have the TouchMousePointer utility installed for times when I'm out and about and don't have the mouse and keyboard. When running calibre on my tablet, I usually use the BT mouse and keyboard. New books are copies across the network and placed in a shared "Calibre new additions" folder on the tablet. I also do any editing of ePubs and AZW3 books on my desktop using calibre's Editor, though usually without adding to the library. Occasionally, I will add a new book to the desktop library first, in order to perform a format conversion (I read ePubs, so AZW3/MOBI need conversion). I have a BT mouse and keyboard on my desk to aid in these tasks. New books are added to the tablet's library and basic metadata massaging is done there. Monthly, I backup my library to my desktop computer where I also have calibre installed. I like having all of my books on my tablet. My current method is to install calibre and my main "master" library on my tablet. I've used a variety of arrangements over the last two and a half years, or so, that I've been using a Windows tablet as my ereader.
